HULL FC | MATCH PREVIEW | ROUND 7

Read all about our trip to the MKM Stadium on Saturday and how both teams match-up, after six rounds of the Betfred Super League.

THE STORY SO FAR 📖

Just after writing a Match Preview on Hull FC, I find myself writing ANOTHER on the same team just weeks later... That time it was to be a 50-6 victory over the Black and Whites as we advanced into the Quarter-Finals of the Betfred Challenge Cup. The Claret and Gold faithful will be hoping for a similar result at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.

Last season saw the Giants travel to the home of Hull FC twice, with one win and one defeat, a narrow 18-14 defeat and then a 52-20 victory that rounded off our away campaign in 2023.

The Giants last faced a determined London Broncos side, still looking for their first win of the season, and they put on a spirited performance but ultimately fell 26-6 to the Giants, at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, Tui Lolohea shining on that afternoon in-particular with three try assists.

Adam Swift, a former Hull FC man himself of numerous years crossed the FC whitewash four times in the Challenge Cup, showing the club just what they're missing at this current time, and he'll be looking to continue his superb form that's seen him score five tries so far for his new club, and 18 tries in his last 19 Super League games.

THE OPPOSITION ⚫️

Hull FC are going through a turbulent time, but that doesn't discount the quality within their ranks and the threat they pose, especially at home with their only win coming there against London Broncos.

As much as the Giants ran in a huge score just weeks ago, Hull FC put up a fight in the second half of the Hull derby to show their powers of recovery and signs of turning this form around.

Youngster Charles looks set to start again after making his second appearance for the club vs the Giants back in the cup game, partnering Morgan Smith with Nu Brown reverting to Hooker in the absence of Danny Houghton, after they sustained more injuries in their most recent clash vs Hull KR.

Jack Ashworth will also miss his second chance for a reunion vs his former club, after a thumb injury ruled him out of Saturday, while he was suspended for the cup clash at the John Smith's.

FC's pack is still as formidable as ever, as Herman Ese'ese who I wrote about last time, looks to settle into his number 8 role and has looked a powerful force alongside Franklin Pele, the Giants will have their work cut out handling these men.

Here, is the 'Opta Stats Pack' for this weeks match-up. 📈

Huddersfield Giants have won each of their last two Super League matches against Hull FC, including

their most recent encounter at MKM Stadium by a margin of 32 points (52-20 last September), however,

they have not won three in a row against Hull FC since March-September 2013.

Hull FC have won just one of their last 12 Super League matches (L11), however, their sole win during

that period came in their second most recent home game (28-24 v London Broncos), while Huddersfield

Giants have won four of their last five away games in the league (L1), including each of their last two by

margins of 20+ points.

Huddersfield Giants have the highest tackle success rate of any side in this season’s Super League

(92.2%) – they have completed 1916 tackles overall, with only Hull FC (1917) and London Broncos (1987)

having made more in the league this term.

Only St Helens (54.1) have averaged more ball-in-play minutes per game than Huddersfield Giants (53.0)

in this season’s Super League, while Hull FC have averaged the fewest ball-in-play minutes per game of

any side in the competition this term (50.2).

Hull FC’s Jordan Lane has made more tackles than any other player in this season’s Super League (253),

while Huddersfield Giants’ Luke Yates has made 111 tackles without missing any, over twice as many as

any other player to retain a 100% success rate in the league this term.

WHO TO WATCH 👀

  • Cameron Scott - The young Centre/Back-Rower has grown in confidence in the past weeks and crossed for a try last time out, a solid, dependable player who always gives his all for FC.
  • Joe Cator - Another dependable player for Tony Smith, Joe Cator returns from injury and will be a big boost to their side, loose forward who is solid within the tackle.
  • Darnell McIntosh - The speedy winger who has been a consistent within the Hull team this season can pull a four pointer from anywhere on the field.
